This 900 s.f. 1920’s bungalow was restored to a
comfortable 1250 s.f. home while keeping most of the
original cottage design integrity in tact. A
sometimes contemporary edge is added throughout for
Mr. Crane’s eclectic tastes. Mr. Crane’s love of
entertaining and cooking provided the impetus for
the new open layout. The home had been dark with
closed off spaces so a new colorful center game room
with plenty of light and windows was added to open
the kitchen and living rooms to each other. When the
kitchen was opened up to the game room, there was
still a need for cabinet storage. This was solved by
providing storage in the island and overhead
cabinets
with
glass on both sides so as not to impede the view
into the game room. To alleviate the redundancy of
the full height paneling in every room, some of the
paneling was reused, but modified by adding a chair
rail and plastered and painted MDF board above
giving a wainscot look. To soften Mr. Crane’s
masculine tastes, an elegant pewter metallic scroll
designed wall covering in the kitchen with sheer
roman shades was added which balances the black and
red vinyl ostrich skin wall covering in the powder
bath near by.
Custom
fireplace accessories and furnishings were done in
Mexico and contrast nicely with the finishes.
Mr. Crane now happily entertains as many as 25
people at a time in his charming new home.
